What to use for maine criminal background check

Maine’s online criminal-history service is provided by Maine State Police, State Bureau of Identification, and uses a name and date-of-birth search. The service says it returns conviction/adjudication information in its Maine records plus pending cases less than one year old within the published scope.

Run a Maine check carefully

    Use exact identity inputs

    Name and date of birth are central to the online search.

    A name/date-of-birth match may belong to someone else. SBI says confirming that the record belongs to the person requires fingerprint comparison.

    Read adult/juvenile scope

    The service explains different dissemination rules.

    Order through the Maine online service linked in Sources with the subject’s full name and date of birth and a credit card or InforME subscription. Each request is $21 for Maine InforME subscribers, or $31 for non-subscribers and out-of-state subscribers. Optional notarization adds a nonrefundable $10.

    Keep pending-case timing in mind

    The service identifies a limited pending-case period.

    Most results arrive by email within two hours. If absent after twelve hours, manual review may be needed and can delay the result up to two weeks. Check spam folders; contact SBI if it has not arrived within three weeks.

    Use the court for file detail

    A repository response is not the complete court file.

    To challenge your own incomplete or inaccurate Maine history, contact SBI in person, by phone or by mail. Identify the particular record, the requested correction and why it is justified. SBI researches the challenge and notifies you of its findings; an unsatisfactory initial result can be referred to the SBI Director.
